General Inspectorate and Internal Audit Department

The General Inspectorate Department, overseen by the Minister of Mines and Energy, is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal controls within MME and its provincial departments. Job responsibilities include administrative management, financial statement oversight, and technical inspections. It conducts annual inspections across MME and provincial departments, to ensure adherence to regulations, identifying compliance gaps, and recommending improvements. The inspection process includes questionnaires and interviews with department heads and staff, covering offices relating to mining, petroleum, and energy fields. Inspections are generally conducted according to a yearly program based on risk assessment.

The Internal Audit Department was assigned the mission by the Minister of Mines and Energy to lead and manage audit work in all sectors across all units, conducted by independent audits under the direct supervision of the Minister of Mines and Energy and the National Audit Authority, to ensure transparency, accountability, and adherence to professional standards. This department reviews financial records, evaluates compliance with regulations, and assesses operational practices across central and provincial units. Audit officials have full access to records, assets, and personnel, allowing thorough evaluations to improve efficiency and reduce risks. The department is responsible for enhancing internal control measures, reporting on audit findings, and making recommendations for corrective actions. The Internal Audit Department plays an important role in upholding accountability within the Ministry, providing essential oversight, and supporting ethical practices to prevent corruption and improve service quality across all divisions.
